Title: Livecoding fails on M1 MacBook: “fatal error: ‘cmath’ file not found” after Xcode setup
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to use Livecoding in OsciStudio on my M1 MacBook Pro, but every compile attempt fails with:
fatal error: 'cmath' file not found
#include <cmath>
^~~~~~~
1 error generated.
Please fix your build errors!
Before this, I also saw this message after a successful compilation:
Compilation ok, error while loading shared library :(
My setup
• MacBook Pro with Apple M1 Pro
• macOS version: [e.g. macOS 26.6 — output of sw_vers ]
• OsciStudio version: [e.g. A7.0.4]
• Xcode is installed in /Applications/Xcode.app
• Apple clang version 21.0.0 (clang-2100.4.1.1)
• Target: arm64-apple-darwin25.6.0
• Active developer directory:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer
SDK path:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk
What I checked
The C++ header does exist:
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk/usr/include/c++/v1/cmath
I also checked the OsciStudio executable and bundled libraries. They are universal binaries and include both x86_64 and arm64 , so Rosetta does not seem to be the issue.
What I tried
• Installed Xcode.
• Ran xcode-select --switch /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer .
• Verified that clang --version works and points to the Xcode toolchain.
• Verified with xcrun --show-sdk-path that the macOS SDK is available.
• Started OsciStudio from Terminal with:
export SDKROOT="/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk"
open -a OsciStudio
The error still appears.
Question
Is this a known compatibility issue with newer macOS/Xcode versions? Does OsciStudio’s Livecoding compiler need the standalone Command Line Tools at /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools , or is there a setting where I can point OsciStudio to the Xcode SDK/compiler?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
